Calibration

It is preferred to calibrate the device upon the first use and every few weeks afterward.

Steps to Calibrate:

  1. Open the Reef Kinetics App:

    • Select the Bot assigned to your tank from the top left menu tab.

    • Go to the Maintenance page.

  2. Calibrate the Chamber:

    • Select the Calibration Type from the drop-down menu and click Calibrate to fill the vial.

    • Wait for the process to finish and for the LED indicators to turn orange.

  3. Measure the Volume:

    • Using the plastic dropper, withdraw the sample in the corresponding chamber. It is highly recommended that the plastic dropper be degassed (squeezed) before placing it in the water sample.

    • Empty the content of the dropper into the plastic graduated cylinder.

    • Repeat this process until the chamber is empty

  4. Read the Measurement:

    • Hold the graduated cylinder vertically and at eye level to take the reading.

    • Measure at the middle of the dip in the surface of the liquid (this dip is called the meniscus).

    • Type in the measured volume into the app.

  5. Final Calibration:

    • Click Save. The device should now be calibrated.

    • If it doesn't give 10ml for test chamber and 8ml for RODI chamber, repeat steps 1 and 2 to ensure the device is properly calibrated.

Important Notes:

  • Reaction/Test Chamber: The water level in the reaction/test chamber should be calibrated to exactly 10 mL.

  • RO Chamber: The optimum volume during RO chamber calibration is 8.0 mL. However, any volume between 7-10 mL is acceptable.

    • If the volume in the RO chamber is 12 mL or greater, please repeat the calibration or contact support to reset the RO calibration settings to their default values.

  • Repeat Calibration: Ensure you repeat the calibration process until you achieve a 10 mL volume in the testing chamber and an acceptable value in the RO chamber.

  • Remove Air Bubbles: When reading the volume inside the graduated cylinder, make sure that it does not contain any air bubbles.

  • Final Confirmation: After entering the volume in the app, the ReefBot will update its calibration settings by changing the LED colors from solid blue to orange and back again to solid blue. This indicates that the ReefBot has accepted the calibration values.

    • Please do not initiate a new calibration when the LEDs are still orange, as the device will not accept the calibration values in that state.
